When Jolene first moved to Colorado Springs she was shocked there wasn’t a Free-Standing Birth Center in The Springs because Denver had already had one for so long. She felt like there was a real need for one in the community – citing the lack of options women in the Springs have for giving birth – and so in Jan 2017 Jolene decided to take the step towards opening Beginnings Birth Center. It was important to Jolene that the Birth Center be located close to a hospital if a need should arise to do something quickly, but wanted to offer an option for birth uninhibited and without all the red tape that you have to go through at a hospital.
The Birth Center’s primary GOAL is to always attend to a woman wherever she wants to and feels safest and most supported giving birth. Right now those options include giving birth at the birth center. Down the road, however, the plan is to get hospital privileges as well so that if the need were to arise for a woman to be transferred to the nearby hospital, the Beginnings Birth Center CNM’s would be able to remain as their patients primary care provider.
The Beginnings Birth Center team is lead by Jolene Hamann and staffs two other Certified Nurse Midwives, Amy Burgess & a new, special CNM to be announced soon and joining our team Fall 2018.
Our certified nurse midwives and registered nurses will take care of you through every stage of your pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. You have access to a variety of luxury amenities to help you during your delivery process, including spa-like birthing suites and even custom waterbirth tubs. At the birth center, you also have the option of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, as a tool to help through labor.
Our Nurse-Midwives are not limited to providing care just during pregnancy – we can care for you in every season of life, puberty through menopause! Our services include but are not limited to, family plannings, preconception counseling, mental health care, annual exams, pap smears, bleeding & breast irregularities, and difficulty with sex. Our Nurse-Midwives are licensed in all 50 states and, unlike professional midwives, can prescribe medication and order/ perform procedures like ultrasounds, labs and other tests. We are also educated and certified to provide newborn care for healthy children until they are 28 days old.

While we do have a number of contracts in place for a portion of our fees through Springs Midwifery and Women’s Care, we at Beginnings Birth Center are currently working on obtaining in-network status with a number of different health insurance providers. Not all plans cover birth outside a hospital so please check with your particular plan to know see if coverage would be partial or complete and continue to reference our Accepted Insurance page for updates on our status with your Health Insurance Provider. We’re always willing to work with you if out-of-pocket costs are going to be difficult to cover all at once. Just let us know and feel free to ask questions whenever you have them.

Belly binding can be helpful for many different reasons in your postpartum days. It can promote the shrinking of the uterus, support your back as your abdominal muscles heal, and may even help with emotions after the birth.
